- Start stressing academic requirements, starting their 8th grade year.
- Make sure they are aware of the clearinghouses for the level they are interested in.
Get your wrestler the exposure they need to be looked at by colleges.

How to sell a wrestler to a school:
- Complete a recruit questionnaire for any school of interest, most are on-line.
- Send some full length match video versus better competition to the coach. (send link if on-line)
- Follow and like team on social media sites. (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) This shows interest in the program.
- Send the prospective coach a copy of your schedule so he can come watch you in person.
- Apply to any school of interest sending them FAFSA and test scores also. Could be Common Application which is used by 500+ schools. Many schools will waive fee if you visit.
Take ACT and SAT exams.
- Take test prep classes and practice questions at http://www.actstudent.org/ prior to taking the exam.
- Take exams multiple times. Everyone tkaes it their junior year in KY, so try at least two more times for each exam. (Even more if score if below what you want or need)
- Some people do better on one exam than the other. For NAIA schools only Critical Reading and Math scores are used so focus on those parts if you are going NAIA.
How to get maximum Financial Aid:
- Complete your Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) prior to January 31st.
- https://fafsa.ed.gov/ Can be completed starting January 1st.
- Parent's tax info can be estimated (Just get it done, they can come back and fill it in later)
- If possible use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.
- Make sure to register with Selective Service. (Must be done prior to completing FAFSA)
- In KY some grants are issued on a first come/first serve basis.
